The ‘Spider’ is a series of elastic ropes attached to an open frame which creates a ‘spider’s web, holding each child in their perfect postural position and enabling them to practise balancing, crawling, kneeling and standing positions, whilst concentrating on essential movements such as supporting, reaching, grasping and holding.

Physiotherapy Grants

We would be delighted to hear from any family who would like to apply for a grant towards their therapy at Footsteps. Download the application form and notes here: Family Grant Application Form 2025

If it is your first time applying for assistance from the charity, you are welcome to call and chat to the team at Footsteps Foundation and discuss our criteria & the grant form on: 01865 343851

In order to apply for a grant, you must first book your child onto a session at Footsteps and then fill in the form and provide details of your income. We will then contact you shortly, to let you know how much of the costs we can cover, which will be paid directly to Footsteps Ltd, who will then invoice you for the remaining balance.

If you find that you will still struggle to afford the remaining costs please do speak to the charity team as we do not want any child to miss out.

With the exception of last minute bookings, all grant applications should be received at least two months prior to your first booked session of the year. Otherwise, the Trustees may not be able to consider your application.

Helping Hand Project

The Helping Hand Project was set up in response to concerns that families were struggling with the additional costs of bringing their children to Footsteps. We are especially aware that those travelling very long distances may have a large fuel bill or accommodation costs in addition to therapy costs and this may make it difficult to attend. This funding is made possible by generous donations and will run until the funding runs out.

Our well-skilled, diverse therapy team are trained in a variety of physiotherapy techniques including Bobath and PNF. The Footsteps therapy programme incorporates traditional mat exercises with a variety of equipment including balls, rollers, trampolines and ladders to facilitate therapy.

Equipment & Shoes

We hold a stock of specialist orthopaedic MEMO shoes that are recommended by our physiotherapists and we can also subsidise the cost of therapy equipment that will help disabled children when they return home. For the shoes, please see someone in the office to check whether we hold your child’s size in stock. The first pair each year will be free and further pairs charged at cost price.

Families are encouraged to discuss individual recommendations for shoes and equipment with their child’s Footsteps therapists. In order for Footsteps Foundation to fund pieces of equipment, it must have been approved by a member of staff beforehand.

To apply for funding towards specialist equipment, Footsteps families should complete the EQUIPMENT BANK REQUEST FORM T and return it to Footsteps Foundation, along with confirmation of the order (receipt or email). We refund 50% of the cost, up to a maximum of £200 per year.

Once you have finished using or outgrown orthopaedic shoes or physiotherapy equipment, please consider donating items in perfect condition back to the Footsteps Foundation. We offer these to other families for a small donation.
